A deadly train collision near Jakarta, Indonesia, on Monday, has left at least 15 dead and 84 injured, Al Jazeera reported.

The crash occurred at Bekasi Timur railway station in West Java, involving a long‑distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a Cikarang Loop commuter train that was stopped on the tracks. The long‑distance train collided with the rear of the commuter train, causing significant damage, especially to a women‑only carriage where all fatalities occurred.

Rescue teams, including Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency, worked overnight to free passengers trapped in the wreckage. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision, with President Prabowo Subianto visiting survivors and promising improvements to rail safety.

Indonesia’s railway network has faced repeated accidents, leading to calls for better infrastructure and safety measures. The crash marks one of the country’s most severe rail disasters in recent years.
