Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced the completion of the Quran’s translation into the Makassarese language, spoken primarily in South Sulawesi around the city of Makassar. The initiative aims to make the Quran more accessible to local communities and strengthen their spiritual and cultural connection to the holy text.

Siddiq Sisdianto, head of the Center for Religious Book Evaluation and Translation, described the project as a major step in bringing the Quran’s moral and spiritual values closer to native speakers. He noted that the translation underwent a thorough review to ensure accuracy, linguistic clarity, and fidelity to the Quran’s message.

The final version will be assessed by an academic committee as part of a broader effort to combat religious illiteracy. Indonesia has so far translated the Quran into about 30 local languages, reflecting its ongoing commitment to promoting Quranic understanding across diverse linguistic communities.
