Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Erupts, Sends Ash 18 km High
………………….
Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, a volcano on Indonesia’s Flores Island, erupted on Monday, sending an ash plume 18 kilometers into the sky, according to the country’s volcanology agency.
The eruption, which occurred at 11:05 a.m. local time, has not caused reported damage or casualties so far. Authorities warned nearby communities of possible hazardous mudflows if heavy rains occur.
Last month, eruptions from the same volcano led to dozens of flight cancellations to Bali and forced local evacuations. Indonesia sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” and is prone to frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
