A 4.9-magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia’s West Java province on Wednesday, September 18, resulting in one death and at least 82 injuries, officials said.
The quake, reported by Indonesia’s meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency, occurred at 9:41 a.m. local time (0241 GMT) with its epicenter located 24 km southeast of Bandung regency at a depth of 10 km.
In Bandung alone, 81 people were injured, and all affected individuals have been taken to hospitals and clinics for treatment.
A spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency reported that preliminary assessments suggest around 700 homes were damaged, ranging from minor to severe. Additionally, nearly 100 health, educational, religious, and public facilities, including markets, were affected.
