Hindu monk calls for the genocide of Muslims in India and the head of the ruling party participates in incitement with a misleading video

Kailash Vijayvargiya, the leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has sparked controversy on social media because he posted a video of a person claiming to be a Muslim threatening the Hindu community following the recent events in Khargone.

Vijayvargiya posted this video, and blamed a prominent leader of the opposition Indian Congress, asking, “How can the police not arrest such people?” pointing to the person speaking in the video.

The ruling party was severely criticized for not interfering in the Khargone events that took place last week in which hundreds of Hindu rioters destroyed and burned shops and homes belonging to Muslims in the city.

But the verification of the video showed that it was not during the events in Khargone during the past week, but rather it was filmed in Nizamabad, Telangana state, and was published on social media in May 2020.

In this context, controversy erupted on the social media platforms during the past hours due to the circulation of a video of a Hindu monk calling for the start of genocide against members of the Muslim minority in India.

The monk, called Yati Krishnanand, appeared in the video, wearing a turban and an orange garb, saying, “I am thinking of starting mass killings against Muslims from Purvanachal in eastern Uttar Pradesh, India.”
