Vienna Islamic Center Hosts Seminar on Combating Misinformation About Islam

The Islamic Center in Vienna hosted a seminar examining ways to counter misinformation about Islam and Muslims in Austria and Europe, bringing together representatives of Islamic institutions and community figures in cooperation with the Muslim World League’s office in Austria.

The seminar addressed the growing spread of misinformation about Islam and Muslims, examining its causes and potential consequences, as well as possible measures to prevent it and strengthen public awareness, dialogue and communication.

Participants included Abdulsamad Al-Yazidi, head of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany; Ümit Vural, president of the Islamic Religious Community in Austria; Dr. Waleed Abdulrahman, a member of the Muslim World League’s office in Austria; and Dr. Ahmed Saad Al-Mufreh, director of the Islamic Center in Vienna, along with other Islamic and local figures.

Carla Amina Baghajati also helped moderate the discussion, which focused on the challenges, responsibilities and future prospects of addressing misinformation and on strengthening shared responsibility among institutions and individuals.

Speakers discussed ways to translate dialogue into practical initiatives in prevention, public awareness and community engagement, with the aim of providing more accurate information about Islam and Muslims and addressing false claims circulating in the public sphere.

Participants stressed the importance of directly addressing challenges facing Muslim communities while combining analysis of their causes with prevention, awareness and dialogue efforts, supported by relevant religious and legal frameworks.

The seminar also highlighted the importance of cooperation between Islamic institutions and wider society in confronting stereotypes and misinformation and promoting dialogue and mutual understanding across European communities.

The Islamic Center in Vienna concluded the event by thanking the speakers, guests and participants for their contributions to discussions on issues and challenges facing Muslims in Austria and Europe.
