Spike in Anti-Muslim Violence Raises Alarm During Ramadan
—————————–
A series of hate crimes across India during Ramadan has raised concerns over targeted attacks on Muslims, with activists calling for stronger law enforcement, Maktoob Media reported.

Recent incidents include the killing of Roshan Khatoon in Bihar after a village dispute, the shooting of truck driver Aamir Khan in Rajasthan, and clashes in Uttar Pradesh linked to Holi celebrations. In Darbhanga, Bihar, Abdul Salam was lynched for confronting Islamophobic slurs.

Rights groups say these attacks reflect broader patterns of anti-Muslim violence. Aasif Mujtaba, Muslim activist, researcher, and founder of Miles2Smile (NGO supporting victims of anti-Muslim violence), highlighted that Muslims face fear and insecurity during Ramadan.

Nadeem Khan, national secretary of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (an Indian civil rights NGO) stressed that enforcing laws against mob violence and hate speech is essential to prevent escalation.

Activists urged authorities to increase security for religious observances and ensure accountability for perpetrators to protect vulnerable communities.
