Indonesian Researcher Introduces Inclusive Method for Teaching Qur’an to People with Disabilities
————————
Amelie Qadir, an Indonesian researcher and inventor, has introduced an innovative teaching method known as “Iqra Cerdas”, announcing its success in helping people with disabilities learn to read and write the Holy Qur’an.

The specialized approach has created new opportunities for Qur’anic learning among individuals with mental and physical limitations. Designed specifically to address the needs of Muslims facing cognitive or physical challenges, Iqra Cerdas offers an inclusive framework that adapts traditional Qur’an education to diverse abilities.

According to Al-Madinah newspaper, the method has successfully facilitated Qur’an literacy for a wide range of learners, including people with disabilities, the elderly, and new converts to Islam. In an interview with the newspaper, Qadir stressed that the method is not limited to a particular group and can be implemented in both formal and informal educational settings with standard curricula.

She explained that the primary goal of Iqra Cerdas is to remove barriers to learning the Qur’an, adding that the approach has proven effective in helping any Muslim—regardless of physical or mental capacity—build a meaningful connection with the Holy Book.

The method also incorporates a Braille-based system, enabling trained teachers to educate visually impaired students and strengthening the concept of blended learning. Additionally, Iqra Cerdas supports independent learning for new Muslims, promoting deeper religious understanding and greater social integration.

Qadir believes the initiative will have a positive global impact by empowering learners and expanding access to Islamic teachings. She described the method as a significant step toward educational justice and equal opportunities for all Muslims to access the Book of God.
