Following the temporary suspension of federal food assistance programs for low-income individuals, more residents in Aurora, Colorado, have turned to local food distribution centers for help.

According to CBS News, the city’s Islamic Center has mobilized emergency resources to meet the growing demand by allocating part of its relief fund to purchase essential food supplies and by collecting community donations.

Imam Abdul Rahim Khan, the mosque’s leader, warned about the worsening situation of poverty and hunger in the area and urged residents to take part in charitable efforts.

“The need is greater than ever,” he said, emphasizing that community solidarity and compassion are vital to supporting families affected by the pause in federal aid.
