The Australian Islamic Medical Association (AIMA), in collaboration with the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) and the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA), organized a large-scale community CPR training event titled “Global Lifesavers” at Lakemba Mosque in Sydney.

The two-hour session, held after Friday prayers, attracted over 100 participants from diverse age groups, including families, youth, and seniors. Participants learned essential life-saving skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and choking response techniques. Guided by volunteer physicians, attendees received hands-on training in small groups to ensure practical understanding and confidence.

Organizers said the initiative aimed to promote a faith-driven culture of saving lives, inspired by the Quranic verse: “And whoever saves one life—it is as if he had saved all mankind” (Al-Ma’idah 5:32). Medical statistics highlighting that 80% of cardiac arrests in Australia occur at home reinforced the program’s importance, emphasizing that immediate intervention can triple survival rates.

Participants left with increased confidence and readiness to respond in emergencies. LMA representative Khaled Kamalmaz praised the partnership and the empowering nature of the training, while both organizations thanked St. John Ambulance for its vital support and provision of medical equipment and online training scholarships.
