An elderly Muslim man in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district was brutally assaulted by a group of intoxicated men on Independence Day, Muslim Mirror reported. A video of the incident, which quickly spread on social media, shows the victim being slapped, abused, and forced to chant religious slogans while facing threats to cut off his beard.

The attackers were heard making communal remarks and issuing violent threats, further intimidating the man into compliance. At one point, they demanded a blade to shave his beard, escalating the humiliation.

According to police, both the victim and the perpetrators are local contract laborers working with the Indian Railways. Authorities confirmed that the accused have been arrested and a case of criminal intimidation has been filed against them.

The incident has sparked outrage nationwide, with civil society groups and rights activists condemning the act and urging stronger measures to protect minority communities from such attacks.
