Three individuals have been arrested in Karnataka’s Belagavi district on charges of poisoning the drinking water at a government school in Hoolikati village, Muslim Mirror reported. The accused allegedly conspired to frame the Muslim headmaster of the school, Suleman Gorinaik, and secure his transfer.
The incident, which occurred about 15 days prior, led to 11 schoolchildren being hospitalized after consuming the contaminated water. While the symptoms were not fatal, they caused alarm among school authorities and parents. Police investigation revealed that the accused, identified as Sagar Patil, Krishna Madar, and Naganagouda Patil, intended to create panic and malign the headmaster’s reputation. According to police, Krishna Madar, who was reportedly in a relationship with a girl from another community, was blackmailed by Sagar Patil into mixing pesticide into the water.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has condemned the act, calling it no less than a “terror act” and an “attempt at mass murder,” and has ordered strict action. The incident has intensified political and communal tensions in the state.
