————————————-
Two individuals have been arrested in Durgapur, West Bengal, following an incident where a vehicle carrying cattle was stopped and its occupants, identified as Muslim men, were assaulted and reportedly forced to do sit-ups with their hands tied, Muslim Mirror reported. The incident, captured in a viral video, has sparked tension in the region.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a complaint, accusing members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of perpetrating the assault and vandalism. West Bengal police arrested Deepak Das and Ganesh Bhattacharya in connection with the incident. Police investigations indicate that the individuals transporting the cattle possessed valid documents for the animals.
The Hindu reported that a BJP youth leader, Parijat Ganguly, led the assault. The incident occurred near the Gammon Bridge under the Coke Oven Police Station. Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Minakshi Mukherjee shared the video on social media, commenting on the alleged “RSS rule in Trinamool’s Bengal.” The event has intensified political contention between the TMC and BJP in the state and led to protests demanding further arrests.
