Twin air tragedies raise safety concerns in India
…………..
India’s aviation sector is under scrutiny following two fatal air accidents within days. On June 14, a helicopter carrying seven people, including the pilot, crashed in Uttarakhand’s Goriganga forest while en route from Guptkashi to Kedarnath Dham. The aircraft, owned by Aryan Airlines, was transporting pilgrims.
All on board were killed. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and investigations are expected to begin shortly. Authorities have suspended helicopter services in the Char Dham region as a precaution.
Earlier that week, a passenger plane bound for London crashed near Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat, killing all 270 passengers. The back-to-back incidents have prompted widespread concern over aviation safety, particularly in areas with challenging terrain.
Officials are under increasing pressure to improve oversight, emergency protocols, and safety measures across the sector. As inquiries proceed, restoring public confidence and enhancing air travel reliability remain key challenges for Indian aviation authorities.
