Allahabad High Court Orders Reopening of Shravasti Madrasa After Unjust Closure
——————————
The Allahabad High Court has ordered the reopening of Madrasa Anwarul Uloom in Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh, after it was sealed by officials without proper verification, Muslim Mirror reported. The madrasa, located in Jamunaha’s Bangai Bazaar, was closed on April 27 on claims of lacking valid documentation. However, the madrasa’s director, Mohammed Qasim, presented documents proving permanent recognition since 1974.

The court criticized the Minority Welfare Department for arbitrary action and directed immediate reopening. Though the order was issued on May 14, the madrasa was unlocked only on May 28 under court supervision.

This closure is part of a wider crackdown on madrasas in districts bordering Nepal, with many unrecognized institutions sealed. Community leaders and legal experts have condemned the selective targeting of Muslim institutions.

Students and parents expressed relief at the reopening, emphasizing the madrasa’s importance for education access. Despite the court ruling, concerns remain as similar closures continue across the state.
