AIMPLB, AIMIM to launch human chain protest across Hyderabad against Waqf Act

Members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) organized human chain protests across Hyderabad on Sunday against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, Muslim Mirror reported.
Protesters wore black armbands to express dissent, gathering at multiple city locations. Prominent AIMIM leaders, including Charminar MLA Mir Zulfeqar Ali and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, led a separate demonstration near Owaisi Hospital.
The protests are part of AIMPLB’s nationwide campaign, Waqf Bachao, Dastur Bachao (Save Waqf, Save Constitution), relaunched on May 18 after a pause following the Pahalgam terror attack. The campaign includes public meetings, civil society roundtables, and district-level protests.
The Waqf (Amendment) Act, enacted on April 8, 2025, has faced criticism for allegedly threatening Muslim rights and control over Waqf properties. Several Muslim organizations and opposition leaders have challenged the law in the Supreme Court. The Union government defends the Act as promoting transparency and empowering backward Muslims and women.
