Supreme Court Rejects PIL on Tourist Safety After Pahalgam Attack, Criticizes Petitioner

The Supreme Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking enhanced safety measures for tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s remote areas, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly out-of-state visitors, Muslim Mirror reported.
A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh rebuked petitioner advocate Vishal Tiwari, questioning his motives and warning of potential penalties for filing a “publicity-driven” plea. The court noted this was not the first time Tiwari had filed such petitions, stating, “The primary aim appears to be publicity, not public interest.”
Last Month, terrorists targeted Baisaran, a popular tourist spot in Pahalgam (Anantnag district), escalating India-Pakistan tensions.
Tiwari cited the unprecedented targeting of tourists in J&K as justification for judicial intervention.
