Muslim Student Denied Classroom Entry Over Hijab at Meerut College

A video from Khalsa Girls Inter College in Meerut sparked outrage after a Muslim student alleged she was barred from entering her classroom for wearing a hijab, Muslim Mirror reported. The student claimed she was instructed to remove her headscarf at the entrance, despite wearing it for years without issue.

College authorities denied discrimination, stating Muslim students face no bias on campus. However, the student maintained her account, calling the incident humiliating.

The video, shared widely on social media, drew condemnation from activists, lawyers, and Muslim groups, who labeled it an attack on religious identity. Legal scholar Faizan Mustafa criticized the action as “educational apartheid.”

The student escalated the matter to the college manager but was reportedly met with similar demands. The controversy highlights ongoing tensions over hijab bans in educational institutions, reigniting debates about religious freedom and discrimination in India.
