India-Pakistan Ceasefire Violations Escalate Amid Kashmir Tensions

India and Pakistan exchanged fresh accusations of ceasefire violations along the Kashmir border on Monday, marking the 11th consecutive night of cross-border fire since tensions flared after a deadly April 22 attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 people, Anadolu Agency reported.

Pakistan’s military claimed Indian troops initiated “unprovoked” firing on multiple posts along the Line of Control (LoC), prompting a “befitting response.” India countered, alleging Pakistan opened fire first and stating its forces retaliated “promptly and proportionately.” The LoC divides the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region between the nuclear-armed rivals.

Amid the skirmishes, Pakistan conducted its second missile test in three days—a 120-km-range Fatah series surface-to-surface missile—to validate operational readiness and technical parameters, including navigation precision. This follows a 450-km-range missile test on Saturday, underscoring military posturing during the crisis.

The tensions trace back to the Pahalgam resort attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which remains unclaimed by any group. Both nations have historically linked such incidents to cross-border militancy, though neither presented evidence in this case.

With no diplomatic breakthroughs in sight, the repeated violations risk further destabilizing the region. Observers warn the cycle of accusations and military demonstrations could escalate unpredictably between the two nuclear-capable states.
