India Cuts Trade, Transport Ties with Pakistan After Kashmir Attack

India announced the immediate suspension of all imports, postal services, and maritime links with Pakistan on Saturday, escalating tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors, Anadolu Agency reported. The decision follows the April 22 attack in Indian-administered Kashmir’s Pahalgam resort, which killed 26 people. A government notification cited national security as the reason for banning all goods originating from Pakistan, including transit items.
India also halted inbound mail and parcels via air and land routes, while barring Pakistan-flagged ships from its ports. Pakistani ports will similarly deny entry to Indian vessels. The measures come after both nations recalled diplomats, canceled visas, and India suspended its role in the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty.
Islamabad, which had already banned trade with India, denies involvement in the Kashmir attack and proposed a neutral investigation. The U.S. and other countries are mediating to de-escalate the crisis, the gravest since 2019.
