Severed Animal Head Found at Agra’s Shahi Jama Masjid Sparks Tension

A severed animal’s head was discovered in a polythene bag at the historic Shahi Jama Masjid in Agra on Friday morning, just before dawn prayers, Clarion reported. The bag, found near the ablution area, contained raw meat and the animal’s head, causing alarm among worshippers. Police were immediately alerted, and CCTV footage revealed a suspect entering the mosque premises around 4:30 AM.
Authorities have launched an investigation, with forensic tests underway to identify the animal species. Senior officials, including Agra’s District Magistrate and City SP, have appealed for calm, urging citizens to avoid spreading rumors. Security has been heightened around the mosque and sensitive areas, with police patrols and Rapid Action Force personnel deployed.
Community leaders condemned the act as a deliberate attempt to incite communal tension. “This is an insult to our shared heritage,” said local historian Prof. Shabnam Jafri. Political parties, including the Congress and Samajwadi Party, called for swift justice and stronger security measures. The incident has raised concerns about communal harmony in the region.
