Curfew Imposed in Manipur’s Lilong After BJP Leader’s House Torched

A curfew has been imposed indefinitely in the Lilong Assembly constituency of Manipur’s Thoubal district following the arson of BJP minority morcha President Md Asker Ali’s house, Muslim Mirror reported. This incident occurred after Ali expressed support for the Waqf Amendment Act on social media.
On Sunday evening, a mob of 7,000 to 8,000 people attacked Ali’s residence, prompting the Thoubal District Magistrate to enforce prohibitory orders due to concerns over public safety. Protests against the Waqf Amendment Act, which aims to enhance governance and transparency in property management, erupted in various parts of Manipur, with clashes reported between demonstrators and security forces.
In response to the unrest, additional police forces have been deployed in Muslim-dominated areas, and the situation is being closely monitored by senior officials. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, received presidential assent on April 5 after extensive parliamentary debates.
