Shutdown Continues to Impact Life in Manipur

Normal life in Manipur, India, remains disrupted for the fifth consecutive day due to an indefinite shutdown called by the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) in protest against police actions in tribal areas, Kashmir Media Service reported. The situation in Kuki-Zo inhabited regions, particularly Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts, remains tense following clashes with security forces on March 8, which resulted in injuries to 43 individuals, including 27 personnel from Indian forces, and the death of a protester.

The shutdown was briefly relaxed in Churachandpur to allow residents to purchase essentials. Demonstrations, involving many women and supporters from various tribal organizations, have taken place across Kangpokpi and Churachandpur.

A significant deployment of armed forces, including Army and state forces, has been made to maintain order in the affected areas. Senior police officials are closely monitoring the situation, amid ongoing separatist movements in Manipur advocating for independence or greater autonomy.
