Violence Erupts in Mhow as Rope Bombs Land in Mosque Amid Cricket Celebration

A violent clash erupted on Sunday night as a rally celebrating the Indian cricket team’s Champions Trophy victory passed near Jama Masjid, where Muslims were observing prayers, Clarion reported. Reports indicate that rope bombs were thrown into the mosque, causing panic among worshippers. Imam Mohammed Javed described the chaos, stating, “As we concluded our prayers, smoke filled the mosque, leading to anger and stone-pelting.”
At least six people were injured, and several vehicles and shops were set ablaze. Local police confirmed the situation was tense but under control, with Indore Rural SP Hitika Vasal stating, “Some incidents of violence have taken place… but adequate force is present.” The rally’s passage through the area has raised questions, with Javed demanding clarity on how it was permitted. Eyewitnesses noted a prior agreement between communities to avoid religious processions near each other’s places of worship, suggesting a breach of trust led to the unrest.
