Allahabad High Court to Hear Petition for Cleaning Sambhal Mosque

The Allahabad High Court is set to hear a petition on February 27 regarding the request to whitewash and clean the Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Muslim Mirror reported. The petition, filed by the Committee of Management of the Jama Masjid, aims to address the mosque’s maintenance.

During preliminary proceedings, Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal noted that many lawyers were abstaining from work. Sri Hari Shankar Jain appeared via video conferencing, while Additional Chief Standing Counsel Sri Sanjai Kumar Singh represented one of the respondents. However, no legal representation was present for other parties involved.

S.F.A. Naqvi, counsel for the Muslim side, informed the court that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) would be notified about the court’s order within 24 hours. The ASI’s involvement is crucial for the preservation of historical structures like the Jama Masjid. This case has garnered attention amid ongoing debates about the maintenance of significant religious sites in India. The upcoming hearing is expected to clarify the petition’s status.
