India: Sambhal’s court receives Shahi Jama Masjid survey report

The survey report of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal was submitted to the Chandausi court by advocate commissioner Ramesh Singh Raghav on Friday.

The 40-page report, compiled during surveys on November 19 and 24, remains sealed pending Supreme Court instructions.

The survey process was marred by controversy, particularly the second session coinciding with violent clashes that left five dead. Local residents express ongoing fear and a desire for peace amid the dispute, which centers on claims by Hindu petitioners that the mosque is built on the site of the demolished Shri Harihar temple from 1529.

Prominent petitioner Mahant Rishi Raj Giri asserts the site’s significance to Hindu beliefs. The Hindu side has submitted a detailed 95-page petition referencing historical texts and archaeological evidence. Raghav noted that access to the report is restricted until further directives are issued by the Supreme Court.
