For the first time in India, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has received a formal request to incorporate Shia jurisprudence into Islamic studies at the government-run Jamia Millia Islamia University, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
The proposal, submitted by Sajjad Hussain Kargili, a political activist and representative of the Twelver Shia Scholars Association in Kargil, also recommends establishing a residential training institute in Ladakh to prepare Shia students for national competitive exams and fostering cultural heritage.
The memo further suggests a fellowship program under the ministry’s supervision and financial and logistical support for Ladakh students pursuing higher education abroad.
