India: Over 200 Booked After Stone-Pelting Incident in Uttarkashi Amid Protest to Demolish Mosque
On October 24, over 200 individuals were booked following a stone-pelting incident during a protest by the right-wing group Sanyukt Hindu Sangathan in Uttarkashi, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.
The protest, demanding the demolition of a mosque, escalated when participants attempted to breach police barricades, resulting in a scuffle. According to Uttarkashi Kotwali SHO Amarjeet Singh, eight individuals have been named in FIRs under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The clash left 27 people injured, including seven policemen. In response to the violence, police deployed tear gas and conducted a lathi charge. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are currently enforced across the district, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Amit Shrivastava. District officials, including District Magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht, have increased police presence in sensitive areas, while local markets closed in solidarity with the bandh called by the protesters.
