India: 28 Naxals Killed in Chhattisgarh Gunfight
Indian government forces killed at least 28 Naxals in a gunfight on Friday in the Abhujmad forest area of Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, approximately 200 km south of Raipur, Xinhua reported yesterday.
The confrontation erupted when police, acting on specific intelligence, cordoned off villages suspected of harboring Naxals.
Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai hailed the operation as a “great success,” emphasizing its importance in the ongoing battle against Naxal insurgency. A substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the scene, further highlighting the scale of the operation.
This incident marks one of the most significant victories for government forces in the region, with reports indicating that 188 Naxals have been killed in various encounters since the start of the year.
