India: Tensions Rise in Jahajpur as Eid-e-Milad Processions Denied

Authorities in Jahajpur, Rajasthan, India, have denied permission for Eid-e-Milad processions due to escalating communal tensions, India Today reported.

The decision follows a violent incident on Saturday, where stones were allegedly thrown at a Hindu religious procession near a mosque, resulting in at least two injuries. According to a video published by Al Jazeera on Monday, the Hindu devotees had been chanting inflammatory slogans.

In response, officials ordered “illegal encroachments” of Muslim shops be demolished, leading to attacks on these properties and tearing them down with bulldozers.

Local officials cited the need to maintain peace as the primary reason for prohibiting the Muslim community’s celebrations of the Holy Prophet’s birthday.
