Delhi Riots: Court Acquits 10 Muslims, Cites Contradictions in Evidence
The Karkardooma court has acquitted ten Muslims accused of arson and rioting during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots, highlighting “artificial” claims and contradictions in witness statements, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.
The acquitted individuals, supported by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, faced charges of rioting and property damage. The court noted that witnesses either turned hostile or failed to identify the accused, undermining the prosecution’s case.
Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala pointed out inconsistencies in testimonies, particularly regarding the status of a shop allegedly burned during the riots. The judge expressed concerns about the credibility of police witnesses, leading to the decision to acquit the defendants. Jamiat reported assisting 600 accused in obtaining bail, with eight acquitted in related cases.
