India: Building Collapse in Lucknow Claims Eight Lives

A three-storey commercial building in Lucknow, India, collapsed on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people and injuring 28 others, Al Jazeera reported today. The building housed multiple small businesses, including a warehouse and a vehicle workshop. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences, calling the deaths “heartbreaking.”

Rescue teams worked tirelessly to recover bodies from the rubble, as images showed heavy machinery digging through piles of concrete. Eyewitnesses reported that recent incidents involving trucks colliding with the building may have contributed to the collapse, while a worker mentioned a cracked pillar before the disaster struck.

The building, constructed about four years ago, was undergoing construction work at the time. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. Such accidents are not uncommon during India’s monsoon season, when heavy rains can weaken older structures.
