India: Stampede at Bihar Temple Claims 7 Lives
At least seven devotees lost their lives and 16 others sustained injuries in a tragic stampede at Baba Siddhnath Temple in Jehanabad district, Bihar, India, during the early hours of Monday, Anadolu Agency reported.
The local administration confirmed the fatalities, attributing the chaos to a scuffle that broke out inside the temple. Alankrita Pandey, a senior civil official, reported that security personnel quickly intervened to manage the situation, which is now under control.
However, some local residents criticized the incident, pointing to inadequate crowd management and a baton charge by police as contributing factors.
Last month, at least 121 people were killed in stampede in Uttar Pradesh state, including children, and many others were injured.
