An Indian army trooper was killed and another injured during a fierce gunfight in the Machil sector of Indian-controlled Kashmir on Saturday, Xinhua reported yesterday.
The clash occurred near the Line of Control (LoC), approximately 136 km northwest of Srinagar. According to officials, the confrontation began when army troops detected the movement of suspected militants and challenged them, leading to an exchange of fire.
The army confirmed the death of one soldier and reported another wounded. Local media, however, indicated that four soldiers were injured in total. The wounded have been evacuated for treatment, while operations against the militants continue in the area.
This incident marks a rise in militant attacks in the region, following a similar gunfight on Wednesday that resulted in the death of another trooper and a militant.
