India: Centuries-Old Jagirdar Masjid Demolished in Telangana, Driver Arrested

The historic Jagirdar Masjid in Chilkur village, Telangana, India, was demolished by a JCB earthmover, sparking outrage among local residents, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.

The mosque, dating back to the Qutb Shahi era, was razed without warning, leading to the arrest of the driver and the seizure of the machinery.

Local leaders, including Majlis Bachao Tehreek’s Amjedullah Khan and AIMIM’s Mirza Rahmath Baig, visited the site demanding accountability.

A complaint filed by residents allege that the demolition aimed to incite communal tensions and convert the land for commercial use. The Telangana State Waqf Board has begun efforts to reconstruct the mosque, ensuring prayers continue at the site.

Police are maintaining a heavy presence to prevent further unrest, while investigations continue into the involvement of other parties.
