Indian Muslim bodies express deep concerns over 12 lynchings since Lok Sabha polls

Leading Muslim organizations in India have raised grave concerns over the alarming rise in violence against Muslims since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Muslim Mirror reported today.

Reports indicate incidents of lynchings and property demolitions targeting the community across several states.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind have called for immediate government action, seeking a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah and the enactment of special laws to tackle lynching and hate crimes.

Concerns have also been expressed over recent changes to India’s criminal justice system, with the replacement of IPC and CrPC laws. Critics warn of increased police discretion and potential for discrimination against marginalized groups under the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

Muslim leaders have condemned the rising communal rhetoric and targeted attacks, urging the government and opposition to address these issues and safeguard the nation’s social fabric.
