Deadly Explosion at Firecracker Factory in India Claims Four Lives
At least four people were killed and several others injured in a massive explosion at a firecracker factory in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, Xinhua reported yesterday.
The blast occurred in Banduvarpatti village near Sattur in Virudhunagar district, around 553 km southwest of the state capital Chennai.
According to police, the victims were working at the factory when the explosion took place, triggering a fire that engulfed the facility. Rescue teams were rushed to the scene to contain the blaze, which had consumed at least three of the factory’s 15 rooms.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the deadly incident. This latest tragedy highlights the need for stronger safety regulations and oversight in India’s hazardous firecracker industry as other similar incidents took innocent lives earlier this year in February and May.
