India: Tensions Rise in Himachal Town After Mistaken Cow Slaughter Claim

Despite police confirming an Indian Muslim shopkeeper in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh sacrificed a legal animal (likely a buffalo), not a cow, communal violence erupted, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.

The incident, sparked by rumors and social media posts, led to the shop’s vandalism and forced over a dozen Muslim traders to flee the town.

Muslim leaders condemned the violence and hate campaign targeting their community. They criticized authorities for inaction against instigators and urged officials to maintain peace.

Concerns remain high as Hindutva groups have planned a meeting, raising fears of further unrest.
