At Least 31 Dead After Tainted Liquor Consumption in Tamil Nadu, India

At least 31 people have died and over 60 are still being treated in hospitals after consuming tainted liquor in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Reuters reported today.

The incident occurred in the Kallakurichi district, located 150 miles from the state capital Chennai, the source mentioned.

Since Wednesday, more than 100 people have been admitted to hospitals, suffering from symptoms like vomiting, stomach ache, and diarrhea.

The state government has suspended 10 officials, including the district’s collector and police chief, in response to the illicit liquor incident.

A similar incident last year in a nearby district claimed more than a dozen lives.
