Missing Bangladeshi MP Found Murdered in Kolkata

A prominent Bangladeshi politician has been found dead in the Indian city of Kolkata, Al Jazeera reported yesterday.

Anwarul Azim Anar, a three-term member of Bangladesh’s governing Awami League party, went missing on May 13 after traveling to India for medical treatment, the news agency noted.

It added that Anar’s body was discovered early Wednesday morning in an abandoned house in Kolkata’s New Town area.

According to Bangladeshi authorities, three Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in connection with the incident, though the cause of death remains unknown.

An investigation is ongoing as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressing deep grief over the lawmaker’s untimely demise.
