Indian security forces eliminate 29 Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh ahead of elections
At least 29 Maoist rebels were killed in a confrontation with security forces on Tuesday, marking one of the deadliest days in the ongoing conflict, Dawn online newspaper reported yesterday.
The clash took place in a remote area of the central state of Chhattisgarh, where several deadly attacks on Maoist forces have occurred this year.
The insurgents, also known as Naxalites, claim to be fighting for the rights of the rural poor and have been carrying out guerrilla attacks since 1967.
