US lawmaker Randy Fine slammed by rights advocates, Democrats following anti-Muslim remarks

Rights advocates and Democratic leaders in the United States on Tuesday condemned Randy Fine, a Republican congressman from Florida, after he made controversial anti-Muslim comments on social media.
Fine wrote on the platform X that “if they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one,” a post that had been viewed tens of millions of times by Tuesday.
Fine’s remarks quickly drew sharp criticism from civil rights groups and political figures. The Council on American-Islamic Relations, which previously designated him an anti-Muslim extremist, called on congressional leaders to demand his resignation and denounced the language as dehumanising.
Several prominent Democrats, including Hakeem Jeffries and Gavin Newsom, labeled Fine’s statement Islamophobic and bigoted, with Jeffries calling Fine “a disgrace to the United States Congress” and urging Republican leadership to hold him accountable.
In addition, House members such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have said ignoring the post would normalise such rhetoric. Some Democrats are reportedly considering a forced censure vote if Republican leadership does not act, though no formal resolution has yet been introduced.
Fine has dismissed the criticism and reiterated his remarks on media appearances. Rights advocates note the incident reflects broader concerns about rising Islamophobia in U.S. political discourse.
