FreeMuslim Warns of Rising Anti-Muslim Sentiment at Start of 2026

The FreeMuslim Organization has reported a concerning rise in anti-Muslim rhetoric and incidents in the United States and globally at the beginning of 2026. The group says available indicators suggest that Islamophobia has reached unprecedented levels in some countries, prompting growing concern among rights advocates and community leaders.

In the United States, the organization documented an increase in harassment and discrimination against Muslims in workplaces, as well as threats targeting mosques and community institutions. Universities and colleges have emerged as particular flashpoints, with Muslim students reporting intimidation, restrictions on religious practices, and campus environments described as hostile and exclusionary.

Internationally, similar patterns have been observed. Muslim communities in the United Kingdom and Australia have reported higher levels of vandalism, hate crimes, and public intimidation, often following political rhetoric or security incidents unfairly linked to Muslims. In parts of Europe, attacks on Islamic institutions and incidents involving the desecration of the Quran have intensified social tensions.

The report also highlights concerns in South Asia, where Muslim minorities face legal constraints, social marginalization, and episodes of targeted violence. FreeMuslim noted that online platforms have amplified these trends through coordinated harassment campaigns.

The organization said international human rights bodies are expanding monitoring and advocacy efforts, stressing the need for stronger protections, preventive policies, and initiatives promoting equality, coexistence, and human dignity.
