The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has raised alarm over the worsening humanitarian situation in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, and surrounding camps such as Abu Shouk. Reports indicate dozens of children under five and elderly residents have died from hunger and disease. The crisis has been exacerbated by funding shortages and rising operational costs, leading to the closure of community kitchens that previously provided daily meals to thousands of families.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Denise Brown, called for the lifting of the siege, an end to indiscriminate attacks, and measures to prevent sexual and tribal-based violence. She also reported unlawful killings, arbitrary detentions, and attacks on markets, hospitals, and places of worship, leaving civilians with few safe options.

Brown emphasized the need for safe corridors for those fleeing and reliable delivery of essential food, water, and medical aid for those remaining. She also highlighted the importance of protecting local responders and aid workers risking their lives daily.
