A post-mortem has confirmed that a mentally challenged man from Kerala, identified as Ashraf, died from multiple blunt force injuries after being assaulted during a cricket match in Kudupu near Mangaluru in April, Muslim Mirror reported. The autopsy, completed on July 15, revealed 35 external injuries and internal trauma, indicating death due to the combined impact of multiple antemortem injuries.

Initially, police recorded the case as an “unnatural death,” citing intoxication and a fall. However, forensic analysis found injuries consistent with beatings using cricket bats and wooden sticks.
Reports allege that a mob attacked Ashraf after accusing him of shouting a pro-Pakistan slogan—a claim dismissed by human rights groups.

A fact-finding report titled Lost Fraternity concluded the slogan narrative was fabricated to rationalize the assault and criticized authorities for inadequate response. No confirmation of arrests was mentioned in available reports.
