A 17-year-old boy was caught outside the Inverclyde Muslim Centre near Glasgow, armed with weapons and tactical gear, after planning a mass attack on the mosque, News.stv.tv reported. Inspired by far-right extremists like Anders Breivik, the boy had been radicalised since age 13 through social media. He gained the trust of the mosque’s imam by pretending to convert to Islam, even participating in prayers, allowing him to film and sketch the mosque’s layout.

He planned to set the mosque on fire using aerosols and lighters while worshippers were inside, with an airgun to prevent escape. The boy also created a manifesto expressing Nazi sympathies and listed targets including the mosque and his school. Police intelligence foiled the attack, arresting him on January 23, 2025. He pleaded guilty under the Terrorism Act and remains in secure custody. His defence described him as a vulnerable, isolated youth influenced by online content. Sentencing is deferred pending reports.
