In a troubling indication of growing discrimination and institutional bias in Europe, human rights reports have revealed that Berlin recorded more than 644 anti-Muslim incidents in 2024 alone—marking a 70% increase from the previous year. The figure translates to nearly two hate incidents per day in the German capital.

The data shows that Muslim women accounted for nearly two-thirds of the known victims. Many were subjected to verbal and physical assaults, some of which occurred in front of their children, compounding the psychological and emotional toll. According to the report, these attacks were not limited to public spaces but also took place in schools, workplaces, and residential areas, reflecting what was described as a “systematic climate of hate.”

Human rights organizations emphasized that the published numbers likely underrepresent the true scale of the problem. Many incidents go unreported due to fear of retaliation or lack of trust in authorities, suggesting that the actual figure may be significantly higher. The report also drew attention to the correlation between rising attacks and Middle East tensions, noting that Muslim communities are often scapegoated for international events and portrayed in political and media narratives as security threats.

This trend, the report warns, represents a dangerous form of collective punishment. Advocacy groups called for urgent action to counter the rise in anti-Muslim hostility. They urged German authorities to implement strong legal measures, expand awareness programs, and prioritize protection for victims, warning against the normalization of hate in a country that has long championed human rights and multiculturalism.
