Melvindale Police Officer Files Lawsuit Alleging Systemic Racism
——————————-
Corporal Hassan Hammoud, a Lebanese Muslim officer, has filed a lawsuit against the Melvindale Police Department in Michigan, accusing the department of systemic racial and religious discrimination, Fox 2 reported. The legal action, represented by Marko Law PLLC, outlines multiple allegations of harassment spanning several years.

Among the claims are repeated instances of religious provocation, including Bibles, crucifixes, and inappropriate photographs being placed in Hammoud’s locker. The lawsuit also cites ethnic harassment, such as a pizza delivery job application left with a derogatory note reading “Go.”

Hammoud asserts that his formal complaints to department leadership were systematically ignored. The filing further alleges broader misconduct within the force, including racial profiling of Black individuals near the Detroit-Melvindale border, with officers reportedly using inflammatory language like “let’s go hunt” during patrols.

Attorney Jon Marko characterized the department as fostering “a culture of racism and bigotry,” raising serious concerns about its capacity to serve the community equitably. As of publication, neither the City of Melvindale nor police leadership has issued a public response to the allegations.
