Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: God, Infallibles Are Not Limited by Time; Time Is Subject to Them

In his daily scholarly session, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Hussaini al-Shirazi addressed theological and jurisprudential questions from attendees, continuing the years-long tradition of his daily scholarly lectures.

During the session, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi elaborated on the concept of “first” and “last,” explaining that these terms have dual meanings. Sometimes, “first” refers to something that is followed by a second, while in other contexts, it denotes something unique without a successor. Similarly, “last” can indicate the final element beyond which nothing exists, or it can refer to an additional end that is followed by something else.

He further explained that when these attributes are applied to God, they signify that the essence of the Almighty transcends before and after, and is not constrained by temporal limitations.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi emphasized that the Infallibles (Al-Ma‘sumin, peace be upon them) are also not bound by time. He explained that titles such as Sahib al-Asr wa al-Zaman (Master of the Era and Time) illustrate this principle. While humans exist within time, the Awaited Imam, Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), transcends temporal constraints, and time itself is subject to him.
