Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Lying to God or Imams Invalidates Fasting, While Lying to Others Affects Its Acceptance

During his daily scholarly session on Saturday, the 3rd of Ramadan 1447 AH, senior Shiite authority Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Hosseini Shirazi addressed questions from attendees on various Islamic jurisprudence issues.
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi discussed the distinction between lying to God or the Imams (peace be upon them) and lying to other people, emphasizing the different implications for fasting. He stated that lying to God or the Imams invalidates the fast, making it null.
However, he clarified that if a person lies to a scholar or a fellow believer, the fast itself remains valid but is not accepted in divine records, meaning that it will not be recorded as a meritorious act in the individual’s spiritual account.
